Pencil
Patting Myself on the Back

Your humble ex-teacher made an A on his first paper in a class in which the majority of students made a B or worse, which makes him very, very happy and gives his confidence an always needed boost. I'm determinded to become one of the hard-hitters in this program, and I have started with a knockout.

If you read over the posts I wrote about process, I want you to notice that I've used this blog as part of my process. By writing about my process, I made it a self-fulfilling prophecy, and I further solidified my process by writing it out, reflecting on it, and noting the changes I made to it as I wrote.

You can use this blog in the same way. If you're working on a piece for class, any class, you can post about it here, and such an addition would be very valuable because it helps fulfill the purpose of this blog, which is about our journeys as writers and the discoveries we make along the way.

The lesson I want to convey is that process is so crucial to producing good work. I preached that to you over and over, but I practice what I preach because I know it works.

Mr. Wester....

Glad to hear you're doing well in your studies! I'm sorry that we couldn't meet up for coffee, I had sent you an email that Monday, but it kept coming back to me as unverified(?). I wanted to let you know that I was accepted into Winthrop (thanks in part to your wonderful acceptance letter, I'm sure). I'm glad to see you're keeping up with this blog. I've lurked around the blog for months, but finally created a user I.D. so that I could post hello. This summer I've been working on poetry (a new genre for me) and short stories. My email address is still the same, so feel free to say hi. Anyway, glad to hear everything's going well for you. Come back to boring old Greenville and visit sometime!

Congratulations Mr.Wester. There was no doubt in my mind that you would be the best. Did the teacher say anything to you or comment on your paper?

Mr Wester,
Congratulations! I remember when you passed back our poetry papers and I had an A, my heart skipped five beats. You are an excellent writer though and I am just looking forward to being able to purchase a couple of your first novels...
I know that you will continue to do well in your classes, you never accepted less than the best from any of us, so you would never give anything less from yourself.
Keep us informed, and maybe you could post your paper or email it so that we can read it, and see what the A is for :)
Great job!

Candace, if you're still lurking, I've sent you an invitation to join the blog as a contributor. I sent it to the only email address I have for you. I'm glad to hear from you, and I hope things go wonderfully at Winthrop.
